BUDS focuses on the sensitization of Orphan & Vulnerable Children (OVC) and community members through health education sessions on general health, nutrition, disease prevention, vaccination, hygiene, and sanitation issues which regularly expose them to serious health and economic vulnerabilities. Some of the activities employed to raise awareness include conducting presentations for members of the community which are followed by focus group discussions, rallies, theatrical performances, and film screenings. Informative pamphlets and other communication materials are used to disseminate information on health, hygiene, nutrition, tobacco control and other substance abuse, prevention, and response to gender-based violence and related topics..
Additionally, in response to the increased health vulnerabilities faced by adolescent girls, BUDS focuses on creating awareness among adolescent girls about their reproductive health needs.
Keeping COVID-19 pandemic in mind, BUDS is focusing on informing community members of physical distancing norms. The BUDS medical counsellors educate and share the benefit of following basic hygiene practices such as washing hands, use of face masks, practicing respiratory hygiene, and avoiding touching their mouths, eyes, and nose frequently. Members of the community are informed about the common symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, dry cough, fatigue, difficulty in breathing. Information regarding nearest COVID referralcenters and hospitals are provided. The proper method of wearing and using a medical mask, including its sanitization and disposal are communicated.
